HTML Form Radiogram

Beitragvon oe3vrw » Fr 6. Mär 2015, 09:19

Thanks to Phil, Version 1.2.36.2 and higher of RMS Express supports HTML Templates for filling in information.

I've created an radiogram form, which can be downloaded here. Let me know if you think this form is useful and if you would like to have anything changed. You may also use this thread if you run into any problems.

Screenshots show German HTML forms. If you use another language at your PC the text will be displayed in english.

>> This HTML Templates are only supported in RMS Express! <<

:idea: If you want to view the data outside of RMS Express (for example if you have received it in another Email client) you've to save the received XML File to your disc and upload it the oe3xec server:

http://www.oe3xec.at/RMSE

After uploading, your data is displayed in the radiogram form.

Hello Wolfgang,
thank you for your good work in producing this form. This will always help people who are not sure about the correct layout of information for the IARU formal message form. I have passed the link to this forum onto the IARU Region 1 Emergency Communications Co-Ordinators as well as some RAYNET operators in the UK who are interested in message handling.

The only comments I have are things you cannot fix in your form but are things which need operators to be trained.

1. The subject line of the Winlink message must be in a format which will make sure it will be relayed with the correct priority by Winlink hybrid nodes as well as ordinary amateurs. When a lot of messages arrive , we need to know which are the high priority messages to deal with first.

Winlink has decided to use this format in the subject line to identify the message priority ( Quote from Winlink FAQ ).

"Message Precedence and SPAM Control

Precedence indicators control the order in which messages get processed and sent across slow radio links through the Winlink system. It also includes a mechanism to block SPAM--unwanted and unexpected mail--from the system. Precedence categories are Flash (Z), Immediate (O), Priority (P), and Routine (R). Flash and Immediate messages are reserved for highly urgent messages. Unless there is some special circumstance or urgency routing precedence //WL2K R/ should always be used. "R" is the default if omitted.

The precedence indicator is included in a Winlink message by adding one of the following to the subject line--whether originated from Internet email or from a Winlink address.

//WL2K Z/ - Flash (for urgent message use only)
//WL2K O/ - Immediate (for urgent message use only)
//WL2K P/ - Priority
//WL2K R/ - Routine (Default)"
WInlink then follows this with a normal looking email subject line e.g. //WL2K P/Food and bedding inventory request . This is not helpful though for finding messages for a specific number or destination.

The ARRL National Traffic System handles Radiograms using PACTOR point to point networks. They format their subject line like;

(Priority) (Destination Town/City) (Phone Number) (Callsign or Name)
e.g.
P CHESTER 01244 458562 G0DUB

( See http://nts-digital.net/mw/index.php/Europe_Guideline )

This lets me look down the list of incoming messages and identify from the subject where they should be forwarded to and with what priority.
I will be suggesting in the next revision of the IARU message procedures the subject line for Winlink or other email systems like PSKmail should be

//WL2K x/ (Destination Town/City) (Phone Number) (Callsign or Name)

2. Messages may not always be sent through WL2K and may be transmitted through voice or CW. The punctuation like a full stop (.) or comma (,) should be separated from the words and sent as 'X' for a full stop or 'COMMA' for a ',' so that it is counted properly and not lost in transmission. This is something that other helper applications like flmsg try to do but I do not think that this is possible with a HTML form.

3. The filing date and time do not need to be as accurate as you show in the examples. I worry when the year is given in the Radiogram - if it takes more than a year to deliver then we have a problem :-( Time in seconds also is too much.

I hope that this is useful - it is good to see some active development of tools which make message handling easier.

Hello Greg!

Thank you very much for your useful feedback!

I think there are some improvements possible.

1./ The subject line is in my control. I think it could look like e.g.

Code: Alles auswählen

//WL2K P/ CHESTER 01244 458562 G0DUB

or

Code: Alles auswählen

//WL2K P/ P CHESTER 01244 458562 G0DUB

maybe

Code: Alles auswählen

P CHESTER 01244 458562 G0DUB

is also possible. Will ask Phil.

do I understand it right, that you are sorting the messages and it's necessary to have the priority as first character?

2./ Changing the punctuation should also be possible. HTML supports Javascript, so we could place a button on the form like e.g. "punctuation to words", which one could click after writing his text. Javascript could search all occurances of "," and "." and replace it with "X" and "COMMA".

3./ Yes the filing date and time is very accurate. It's displayed the way I get it from RMS Express. But it's also no problem to truncate the seconds with javascript.

Will try to implement this three points in the next release.

Maybe it should be added that this new "German Version" has a print out feature made for window envelopes.

Just imagine, a Power Blackout, nothing works anymore but a bicycle messager is still able to deliver Winlink RADIOGRAMS. A proofen method which was sucessfully used centuries ago.

Hi Gert,

1.12 ist still the "old standard version" as seen in the screenshots in the first message, with some new features (ARRL Subject, punctuation).

There's a 2nd version of radiogram optimized for printing and window envelops with detailed address. This radiogram can be found here: http://www.oe3xec.at/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=31
